Find the speed of sound in the mixture.

Let the volume of oxygen be

V.V.

Then,

Volume of H2=4V.\text{Volume of }H_2=4V.

Hence,

Total volume=5V.\text{Total volume}=5V.

Step 1: Density of the mixture

At the same temperature and pressure,

DensityMolar mass.\text{Density}\propto\text{Molar mass}.

Since

MH2=2,MO2=32,M_{H_2}=2,\qquad M_{O_2}=32,
ρO2=16ρH2.\rho_{O_2}=16\rho_{H_2}.

Let

ρH2=d.\rho_{H_2}=d.

Then

ρO2=16d.\rho_{O_2}=16d.

Now,

Mass of mixture=4V(d)+V(16d)=20Vd.\text{Mass of mixture} = 4V(d)+V(16d) =20Vd.

Therefore,

ρmix=20Vd5V=4d.\rho_{\text{mix}} = \frac{20Vd}{5V} =4d.

Step 2: Use the speed of sound relation

For an ideal gas,

v=γPρ.v=\sqrt{\frac{\gamma P}{\rho}}.

Since hydrogen and oxygen are both diatomic gases,
